Dionisie Bejan
(b. August 18, 1837, Stăuceni, Republic of Moldova – d. September 21, 1922, Cernăuți, Ukraine)
Dionisie Bejan was a theologian, a publicist, and a politician. He studied Theology and Law in Cernăuți and Vienna. Upon returning to his native province, he joined the political scene and was elected to the Bukovina Diet (provincial Parliament). Thanks to his works to advance the rights of Romanians, he was elected President of the Society for Romanian Culture and Literature in Bukovina. Later, in October 1918, he was elected President of the National Council of Bukovina. In this capacity, he participated in the meeting of the National Congress of Bukovina, on November 28, 1918, when the union of the province with Romania was voted. After 1918, he continued his political activity as a Senator in the Romanian Parliament.
